Spring

 

Now that we are through the other side of Winter season (hopefully!) and we are now into Spring, a time for revival and renewal…but we have been by no means hibernating…!  Here’s what we’ve been up to over the darker months…                      

Sellafield SME Forum

Cheryl attended the relaunched Sellafield SME Forum on behalf of Prima Uno in March.  The Forum has been newly revitalised to share knowledge challenges and successes for those working with Sellafield in line with their new Supply Chain Strategy.  

Representatives from over 60 SME’s attended the event which was a platform to share learning as well as an opportunity to build relationships and collaborate with other SME businesses.  The most valuable outputs will be included in the Sellafield Ltd SME Action Plan. 

Cheryl will represent Prima Uno at future forums as her previous working experience and knowledge means she is well placed to offer opinions from SL and SME perspectives.  

Sellafield Directors Forum

Cheryl attended the annual Sellafield Directors Forum took place on 28th March at Energus.  This event gave opportunity to SME’s, like ourselves, direct access to talk and discuss opportunities with Sellafield Tier 2 suppliers so that we could understand what they procure and how we could become a supplier to them.  It was an extremely busy event with over 500 attendees and there were some good presentations too from SL and some Tier 2’s.

Awards

Here at Prima Uno we never take any award nomination for granted and we always feel honoured and humbled to be even nominated let alone shortlisted for an award.  But we believe it is testament to the hard work we put in each day in our endeavours to maintain our uniqueness in what we do and we feel we are recognised as such through these nominations.    Our latest shortlisting for Small Organisation in the Northern Power Women Awards sadly did not see us win (the honour went ConstructionQ and big congratulations to them!) but to be praised for what we do and be up against 900 other nominations in 10 award categories in a national event, we consider this as an achievement in itself!

In-Cumbria HOT 100

Just last week, we were very honoured to find that we were listed in the In-Cumbria magazine’s HOT 100 companies considered the gamechangers that are blazing a trail for West Cumbria!  We are thrilled to have such recognition.

Women In Nuclear 

We continue to support WiN Cumbria in as many ways as possible.  Since the last news letter WiN Cumbria have achieved 2 major awards:  One from the NI Conference in London in January, for Regional Team of the Year Award 2018, and one from the Norther Power Women Awards held in Manchester in March in the Innovation Category.  Prima Uno’s Angie Dean continues to be an instrumental member of WiN Cumbria and represented WiN and Prima Uno on both occasions.  She was also nominated for an ‘Un-sung Hero’ Award.  We are very proud of what WiN Cumbria continue to achieve and we are proud to be a part of it.

WiN Cumbria have also celebrated a very special milestone – their 1st Birthday!  Congratulations!  A day of celebration was held with key note speakers, party bags, balloons and , of course, cake!  Please see below for a link to the video:

Carlisle Lake District Airport/Stobarts

On 18th March, we were delighted to announce that we had been selected by Stobarts Group to provide Commercial and Project Controls expertise for Carlisle Lake District Airport.  We will also support Stobart Rail & Civils on numerous projects across the U.K.

The first commercial passenger flight for over 25 years will take-off with Loganair on 4th July 2019 and the airport will connect Cumbria and the Lake District with major tourism and business hubs in London, Dublin and Belfast.

Cumbria and the Lake District receives 41.5 million visitors per year and so the economic benefits of this highly anticipated project are significant

 Prima Uno Managing Director, Sarah Purdham said, “it is wonderful that Stobart Group is investing in local businesses, as well as the Cumbrian and national economy.  We are thrilled that they have chosen our award-winning service and we are looking forward to working with them on this significant project for our region.”

Training

Cheryl and Lydia are now our First Aid ‘Appointed Persons’ after successfully completing an intensive course with First Aid Associates.   We attended some Public Sector Procurement training to broaden our commercial knowledge and awareness as well as enhance our bid writing skills.   Cheryl also attended some Business Development and Sales for SMEs training provided by BECBC (Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster).

Business Admin Apprentices

Lydia, our Level 2 Business Admin Apprentice, continues to do well in supporting Prima Uno and is developing in her role as continues to combine her week with a mixture of work placement and studies and assessments at Gen 2.   We have also recently been joined by Chloe Blinco, a Level 3 Business Admin Apprentice.  Chloe is currently helping us with our policies and procedures as well as undertaking studies and assessments at Gen2.
Corporate Social Responsibility

We take our responsibility to our community very seriously here at Prima Uno, and we have been busy is lots of ways since the last newsletter. Our apprentices Lydia and Chloe are taking the lead on Prima Uno community activities and below are a few things which they are currently involved in:-  As part of the Wellbeing Forum, Lydia and Chloe have been helping work out a programme of activities to mark Mental Health Awareness Week from 13th to 17th May.  They are also taking part in a Sponsored Walk up Scafell Pike on 12th May to raise funds for Mind.  Good Luck Girls! As part of the JASS (Junior Award Scheme for Schools) which Prima Uno part sponsors for Montreal School, Lydia and Chloe are working on a presentation for Inspiration Day on the 6th of June.   They have also supported Kaefer in a fundraising cake sale for the Howgill Family Centre.

“I’d like to thank my team for their hard work and commitments over the last few months.  We have some exciting news about new contracts and clients but cannot release any details about at present.  I will be issuing a statement in the coming weeks when I am able to share more”.

So that’s us all up to date with our main news.  As we rapidly head towards Summer we continue to work hard, diversify and collaborate whilst maintaining the personal an professional service that we are renowned for.  We look forward to sharing our latest news and events in the Summer.
